US launches 'Project Freedom' to guide ships through Hormuz amid Iranian blockade
The United States announced a new initiative, dubbed “Project Freedom,” to escort commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s blockade. President Donald Trump said the operation would begin Monday as a humanitarian gesture, while the U.S. Joint Maritime Information Center described the plan as guiding ships from Oman’s waters using destroyers, aircraft and a security area. France 24 reported the details of the U.S. guidance effort, whereas Middle East Eye noted that, despite these assurances, the majority of shipping remains stalled at Hormuz.
