New wheat hybrids gain up to 70% resistance to Fusarium head blight
Scientists identified a genetic locus from the weed *Elymus repens* that confers strong resistance to Fusarium Head Blight, a devastating fungal disease of wheat. By introgressing this locus into commercial wheat lines, the researchers produced hybrids with resistance increases of up to 70%. The breakthrough could reduce reliance on fungicides and improve global wheat yields.
