Mandelson Vetting Scandal: Sacked Official Says He Felt Political Pressure From No 10
Former senior civil servant Sir Olly Robbins gave evidence to MPs on 21 April, saying he felt political pressure to rush through Peter Mandelson's security vetting for the US ambassador role despite concerns. Robbins accused No 10 of taking a 'dismissive approach' to the vetting process. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband admitted he feared the appointment would 'blow up', though he said Starmer should not lose his job over it. US President Trump also weighed in, saying Starmer had made a 'really bad pick' in choosing Mandelson.
