Lebanon ceasefire takes hold: displaced return home, president vows sovereignty
A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon allowed tens of thousands of forcibly displaced Lebanese to begin returning home on the first day of the truce. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun pledged to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and freedom, declaring the country would no longer serve as a 'pawn.' In a symbolic act marking the end of Israeli presence, a Lebanese man removed an Israeli flag from Beaufort Castle (Qalaat al-Shaqif) in southern Lebanon upon returning to the area.
