Coral Reefs Face Extinction-Level Threat as Warming Reaches 1.5°C

Up to 90% of the world's coral reefs could be lost at 1.5°C of global warming, according to a Guardian opinion piece by actor and UNEP advocate Jason Momoa. Momoa calls 2026 a defining moment for reef conservation, stressing the ecological, cultural, and food-security roles reefs play for coastal communities including Hawai'i.
