Bulgaria Holds Eighth Election in Five Years as Anti-Corruption Drive Dominates Campaign
Bulgaria held its eighth legislative election in five years on Sunday, with former president Rumen Radev's bloc favoured to win on an anti-corruption platform. The EU's poorest member has cycled through successive governments since 2021, when mass anti-corruption protests toppled the long-running administration of Boyko Borissov. Radev has called for renewed ties with Russia and opposes military aid to Ukraine.
